Ingredients

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 ½ pounds round steak cut into small pieces
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 stalks celery chopped
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 carrots shredded
  • 2 14.5-ounce cans diced tomatoes with juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • Dependable Slow Cooker

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge the steak pieces in the mixture until lightly coated.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the celery, onion, and carrots, cooking and stirring for about 5 minutes or until tender.
  3. Push the veggies aside and add the floured steak to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring, until the steak is lightly browned.
  4. Transfer everything from the skillet to the slow cooker.
  5. Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juice), brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Cover with the lid and cook on Low for 8–10 hours, or until the steak is incredibly tender.

Notes

Don’t skip the browning. It adds depth to the flavor, but if you’re in a pinch, you can skip it and go straight to slow cooking.
