Method
- Prep your ingredients: Gather your chicken, soup, butter, onion, and biscuit dough. Tear the biscuit dough into small pieces and set aside.
- Layer everything into the slow cooker: Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker. Add the condensed cream of chicken soup, diced onion, and butter. Pour in enough water (or stock) to cover the ingredients and stir to combine.
- Cook the chicken: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook the mixture on High for 5 to 6 hours.
- Add the biscuit dough: About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough pieces into the slow cooker. Make sure they’re evenly distributed and slightly submerged in the sauce.
- Finish cooking: Continue cooking until the biscuit dough is fully cooked and no longer raw in the center. This should take about 30 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy: Give everything a gentle stir, then serve your homemade chicken and dumplings slow cooker style hot in bowls. Watch everyone's faces light up with happiness!
Notes
Replace water with chicken stock for a richer, deeper flavor. For added ease, shred the chicken right in the slow cooker before adding the biscuit dough. You can also customize the dish by adding frozen peas and carrots during the last 30 minutes of cooking for extra nutrition and color.
