Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grab a 13x9-inch baking dish and arrange the trimmed asparagus in an even layer.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to create a roux. Cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the half-and-half. Keep stirring as the sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted.
- Pour the creamy Parmesan sauce evenly over the asparagus.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, crushed Ritz crackers, and additional Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture on top of the sauce-covered asparagus.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 10-15 minutes. Then, uncover and bake for another 10-15 minutes until the asparagus is fork-tender and the topping is golden brown.
Notes
Pro tip: In a pinch, frozen asparagus works too. Just let it thaw and drain it well before using to avoid excess moisture.
