Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce (not paste)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup minced white onion
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. mustard (regular liquid mustard)
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar

Method

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and crumble in the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up into the smallest pieces possible.
  2. Drain any excess fat, then transfer the beef to your slow cooker.
  3. Add the ketchup, tomato sauce, water, minced onion, and all seasonings to the slow cooker.
  4. Stir everything well to combine, ensuring the spices are evenly distributed.
  5. Cook on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours or LOW for 3 hours. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. If the chili gets too thick, stir in a splash of water or an additional tablespoon of ketchup.
  7. Serve warm over hot dogs, or refrigerate for later use.

Notes

Tip: If you're in the market for a budget-friendly slow cooker, look for one with a programmable timer to avoid overcooking.
