Ingredients

  • Cooking spray to prevent sticking
  • 1 (10-ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough (I like Pillsbury Grands!)
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 ½ cups cold water or more as needed
  • 1 (1.5-ounce) package pork gravy mix

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • 9x13-inch baking dish

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Line the bottom of the prepared baking dish with biscuit dough, spacing them evenly for a fluffy base.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir the sausage until it’s browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease, then scatter the sausage over the biscuit layer.
  4. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage layer for that melty, cheesy goodness.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour this mixture over the cheese layer, making sure everything is covered.
  6. Mix cold water and the pork gravy mix in a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes, stirring until the gravy thickens. Add more water if you prefer a thinner gravy.
  7. Pour the prepared gravy over the casserole, spreading it evenly for that extra creamy bite.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is bubbling. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add Creole seasoning to the egg mixture or while browning the sausage. Use Pioneer Brand Peppered Sausage Gravy Mix for best results. Assemble the layers the night before, cover, and refrigerate overnight to bake fresh in the morning. Swap sausage for bacon or turkey sausage to customize.
